RE: Official Hair Length Guide for Men - Shaved, Short, Medium and Long
O I've been studying The Curly Hair Book as I'm a Type III curly hair aka coiled curly hair. From what I'm learning from the book, I am supposed to measure my real hair length by measuring it when it is extended, correct? So I grab a lock of curls on the top of my head where the hair is longest and then I pull on a lock so it is straightened, then measure. Correct?
And it's a couple of times I should be doing this to get a most accurate hair length result. Just wanting to make sure that I understood the instructions correctly. I want to grow my curly hair longer until it gets to hang down which according to the book is about 10 inches for my curly hair type. Still some way to go but hey, it's catching up real fast especially after following the book's advice on nutrition too. My diet was terrible before I picked that book up LOL |

Faster hair growth can be possible through proper nutritional supplementation.

So I grab a lock of curls on the top of my head where the hair is longest and then I pull on a lock so it is straightened, then measure. Correct? Yes, that is correct. As you've learned in the book, there are two types of men's hair length. The one that you want to use is the extended length as that's the one that correlates to the chart and is the one to be used when determining any men's hairstyle. It is not surprising that you obtained an improvement in hair growth through better nutrition given how bad a diet you had. That's where hair-growing speed rates are mostly manifested. We have a hair nutrition guide in this forum that talks about this same topic and provides recommendations. It's worth a read, even though The Curly Hair Book already covers everything about hair nutrition. I'm one of the admins of this forum. Any questions/issue? It's mind blowing how small easy changes in hair care add up so quickly to improve hair aesthetics. If only I had known about this all earlier I would have avoided all the hair drama of having curly hair. It's long and longer for me now! |

RE: Official Hair Length Guide for Men - Shaved, Short, Medium and Long
I've changed my haircuts some weeks ago. I go regularly to a barbershop in the surroundings. I've made the experience that a high fade cut is the appropriate cut for a man. It looks very proper and a shaved side line is also a very good advice. I think that a length beginning with zero is the only possibility to look proper. From now on I have to go to the barber's each week for having a haircut and wet shave. I'm very satisfied with his work. I also attach importance to a classic with collar with a white, long barber cape. It's a real good feeling.

I agree with the fresh short haircut feeling especially when done to skin with a fade haircut. Add a wet shave to the short buzz cut by a barber as you sit down and relax and it's one of those feelings that we men can only understand. I used to get my buzz cut and wet shave frequently some time ago but my hair styling priorities have changed. I do still get a wet shave at y trusted barbershop every once in a while tho! |

I think that the key moment is when the barber puts the collar around your neck and puts you on the barber cape. I prefer white barber cape or the striped ones. I enjoy the moment when he shaves my hair beginning with zero. I think that a man with a proper hairstyle should prefer a kind of military haircut like a fade or a buzz cut. |

I'm starting my barber course and getting some hands on experience at a local barbershop. Short military haircuts seem to be trendy in 2019 as we're getting a lot of them as haircut requests. Mostly guys who fall into the hipster group who had long hair but have gotten tired of it and want to try something totally different. There's a military haircuts guide in this forum but I can't post links since I'm new here. Great guide to read thru all those short haircuts for military men. Maybe someone else can link to it in case you haven't seen it. |

RE: Official Hair Length Guide for Men - Shaved, Short, Medium and Long
Btw this hair length guide is excellent and is what the seasoned barbers at my barbershop use. It's the hair length classification from a book called the mens hair book which people in this forum speak highly of. Is this hair length guide based on that same guide from the mens hair book?
Fyi the book also has a really useful hair-typing method which is one of two being currently taught at my barber school. The other hair-typing method we're taught is from the 80s and is based on women hair while the hair-typing method in the mens hair book is specific to mens hair so a lot more useful to us barbers cutting mens hair. |

RE: Official Hair Length Guide for Men - Shaved, Short, Medium and Long
Quote:Btw. How frequently should I go to the barber to keep this military cut? We're seeing a lot of high and tight haircuts. Also crew cuts. There are guides in this forum for those two haircuts. Both a high and tight haircut and a crew cut need to be buzzed every two to three weeks to keep the haircut aesthetic. Are you getting a hard part on the top since you said you're getting a shaved line on the top too? |

This hair length guide and the hair-typing method are from Rogelio Samson.
Shorty, I moved your last post into a new thread for your question on trendy military haircuts for short hair. I posted my advice there too.

Yes, this hair length guide is the one from The Men's Hair Book. We also use the ISEZ hair-typing method from The Men's Hair Book too as it's the best way for any guy to determine his hair type. This is the ISEZ hair-typing guide published in our forum and is the one that Rogelio Samson pioneered some years ago and published in The Men's Hair Book. We use Rogelio Samson's hair length guide and ISEZ hair-typing method at our barbershop and so have been doing many barbershops since the book was published a couple of years ago. This is the book if you're interested. We have several copies of the book at our barbershop for customers to read. We also have copies of Rogelio Samson's other book The Curly Hair Book as we have a lot of black male customers with curly hair and that book becomes more than just a book to any male with curly hair who reads it. |

Are soldiers among your clients as well? When I go to the barber's, for me wearing a long white or grey-white barber cape that covers my body is important, too. Sometimes I see clients in barbershop wearing short capes. I think that a high fade cut requires a typical barber cape as well and not the one that clients wear in malls. |

RE: Official Hair Length Guide for Men - Shaved, Short, Medium and Long
I'm down in Miami so we don't get many active duty/servicemen on our shop. Mostly vets who came here for retirement and still love their edgy high and tight haircuts, but not many. We do have a high demand of military haircuts at our barbershop from regular civilian dudes because short military hairstyles are trendy in Miami. We also get also get hard parts requested with the military style haircuts. Also mainly because people here like to look super polished and hip. Lotsa nightclubs here and the night scene is a main driver all across Miami.
Just noticed another barber in the forum posted a hard part guide: https://www.menshairforum.com/talk/Threa...lery-Guide Check it out if you're wanting to see pics of military cuts and short cuts with hard parts. |

Official Hair Length Guide for Men: Shaved, Short, Medium, and Long
Choosing the right hair length is a significant decision that can greatly impact your overall appearance and style. Whether you prefer a clean-shaven look, a short and neat hairstyle, a medium-length cut, or long flowing locks, each length option offers unique benefits and requires specific care. In this official hair length guide for men, we will explore the different lengths and provide insights on how to maintain and style each one to achieve your desired look. 1. Shaved Hair: Shaved hair is a bold and low-maintenance choice that exudes confidence and a modern aesthetic. From a complete bald look to a buzz cut, shaving your hair offers a clean and streamlined appearance. To maintain a shaved style, regular upkeep is essential. Invest in a quality electric shaver or razor and follow proper shaving techniques. Remember to moisturize your scalp to prevent dryness and irritation. 2. Short Hair: Short hairstyles are versatile, timeless, and easy to manage. Popular options include the crew cut, the classic taper, and the textured crop. Short hair requires regular trimming to maintain its shape and prevent it from looking unkempt. Use a styling product like wax or pomade to add texture and definition. Regular shampooing and conditioning are crucial to keep your hair and scalp healthy. |
