John Rock was African American gentleman from the 19th century who had a thick long beard that was uncommon for black men at the time. John Rock was a civil rights leader supporting the rights of black people at a time of widespread racism. John Rock promoted the education of black women and black men as well as better rights for his peers. He was a doctor and the first African American to be accepted into the Supreme Court of the United States!
