Hair clipper setting?

I bought a home edition remington hair clipper but only has a #2 and #3 attachment guard setting... what do i need to do to obtain a #2 1/2 setting? I only ask because someone told me that i need to put a #2 attachment guard and move the lever. Someone else told me to go to amazon and purchase 1/2 settings, which of the 2 people is giving me more accurate and reliable information in this case? Do all home editionhair clippers like conair, panasonic, phillips, ect.... have only whole number settings?
