Faux Hawk Hairstyle Guide - How To Style, Tips, Products
The Faux Hawk is a modern hairstyle for men that can sometimes raise some questions as to how to style it properly. Essentially, you need to create a triangle shape through a crest when shaping the Faux Hawk, and there are some tidbits that you need to ensure you do when creating your Faux Hawk. You need to be precise and detailed when doing the shaping, as otherwise the Faux Hawk may look like a Mohawk or any other mens hairstyle but an actual Faux Hawk!
Some celebrity men who have worn the Faux Hawk include David Beckham, Fernando Torres, Cristiano Ronaldo, Derek Hough and Ronnie Ortiz. Here are some pictures of the Faux Hawk hairstyle. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Tips for the Faux Hawk hairstyle The following are some tips that will help you to style a great Faux Hawk; they are the same tips given to male clients at salons and barbershops, and male clients find that these tips really help to finally get the Faux Hawk styled perfectly. It's not just the work that hairdressers do on your hair; it's also what you do at home when it comes to styling that also counts! For what is worth, a Faux Hawk is also known as a Fohawk or Fauxhawk. For kinky curly hair, the term is Frohawk where the kinky curly hair is manipulated to recreate the hawk crest on top of the head. Style your Faux Hawk when your hair is damp Many men make the mistake to style their Faux Hawk when their hair is dry. Damp hair is much easier to style and have its shape consolidated. The Fohawk is a mens hairstyle that requires damp styling as most hairstyles for men. Remember that damp hair only means "slightly wet" hair! Use hair gel or hair wax Only use any of these two products to style your Faux Hawk as both hair gel and hair wax emphasize the shaping of the hair, which is, after all, what we want in the Faux Hawk. A great hair wax to use to style a Faux Hawk is THIS styling wax. A great hair gel to use to style a FauxHawk is THIS hair gel. Use either hair gel or hair wax throughout the whole process To create your Faux Hawk, coat your hair with your preferred hair product (either hair gel or hair wax) when your hair is damp, and then keep using more of the product as you continue to shape the crest of the Faux Hawk as well as when you're giving the final retouches to the hairstyle. Style towards the middle to create the hawk crest To style the crest on the top of the head, you need to use your fingers first to direct the hair towards the center of your head so that it naturally clumps and forms the crest. Start the directing of the hair at the perimeter of the top of the head (where the sides of your head start) and keep directing the hair inwards towards the center. Define the Faux Hawk with your fingers Once you have achieved the clumping of the hair on the center of the top of your head, it is then that you define the shape of the crest with your fingers. You can make the crest as tall as you want or as angled as you want. Be creative! Use a comb To give the final retouches to the hairstyle, you may use a regular comb to further detail the Faux Hawk and you may also use a hair dryer to enhance the volume of the crest. A good men's comb to use is THIS comb here. Overall, the creating and shaping of a Faux Hawk should take you no more than 5 minutes. If you follow the tips above, you will soon be finding out that your Faux Hawk becomes a very-intuitive hairstyle that you will be able to eventually do in just a minute or two! Hair wax and gel but what about pomade?
Great guide with tips mate! i do also agree about the wax and the gel for styling the fohawk. The two best products for the fohawk are indeed hair wax and hair gel although you could use a little pomade too especially if using the newer water soluble pomades for styling. What do you think about those types of pomades for the fo hawk?

Angel Di Maria faux hawk style.
Angel Di Maria
Angel Di Maria is an Argentinian football player & for a long time, he has been sporting a faux hawk hairstyle. He keeps all of his hair buzzed except the top of his head. He keeps a side taper on the top which allows for the crest to look more triangular. This is a hairstyling trick that is also used by Ronnie Ortiz. Here are some pictures of Angel Di Maria faux hawk hairstyle. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

RE: Faux Hawk Hairstyle Guide - How To Style, Tips, Products
I asked this in another thread and for the mohawk hairstyle. The faux hawk is similar to the mohawk, so I would like to ask if a faux hawk is a good hairstyle for balding men.
Both the mohawk and fauxhawk have the crest going on the center. In the beginning to mid stages of male hair loss, the hair in the center stays healthy and can still be styled right? The faux hawk focuses on the center crest so would the faux hawk hairstyle be of any good for balding men that are a norwood 2 or norwood 3 and still have a good amount of hair on the center of the head? |

Matthew Broderick hairstyle as Ferris Bueller.
Here is a picture from the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off with Ferris Bueller's Fauxhawk. Ferris Bueller was played by Matthew Broderick and the movie is from 1986. He actually has a classic side part with fringe in the movie, but in the bathroom scene he gives himself a long Faux Hawk. ![]() (10-07-2014 09:12 AM)Vladimir Wrote: I asked this in another thread and for the mohawk hairstyle. If you want to go for a Mohawk, then a Norwood II to III with no thinning vertex is fine. However, a Faux Hawk for balding men with a Norwood II to III is not a good idea as it will enhance the visibility of the receding temples. You could, however, make a messy Faux Hawk, by which you still create the crest by tousle the hair around the receding temples to minimize the visibility of the receded temples.
