Advice on a longer hairstyle?

Hello again!

Since everyone has been so helpful with queries about hair before, I knew this was the first place to turn!

My friend is growing his hair out and he has seen a hairstyle/cut he adores. His his hair is around 4 inches in length, fine and straight.

This is the kind of hair he is after!















(Sorry if there's too many pictures)

What would he ask at his salon? Would he need any particular products or tools? I'm guessing he's going to need straighteners? How long would it take to grow out his hair to this length?

Correct me if wrong but that looks like a simple taper fade, looks 4 inches in difference.
Hair straightener is good if his hair is not like bone straight too

Are you sure? I swear taper fades are shorter haircuts? Or do you mean once it's grown out?
Do you mean 4 inches longer than it is now?

Got a couple more questions for everyone, if someone could help us it would be very much appreciated:

Is there any particular name or anything my friend should particularly ask when going for this haircut?

You can't see the back of the hair in the pictures, but the cut is quite graduated at the back, what terms would he use to describe this?
