Natural hair loss remedies for men, do they work?
So one of my brothers is officially balding and he is wanting to try natural remedies for hair loss. Does any of that stuff work or should he follow standard hair loss treatments? He said some natural herbs and even some homeopathy mixes. I haven't seen any suggestions on natural remedies for hair loss so im thinking its bogus. What do u think?
Oh & happy new year! Big Grin

Natural remedies or herbal extracts do not (mostly) work for male pattern baldness.
For the most part, herbal remedies for hair loss do not work. I have seen some crazy voodoo herbal stuff being sold for male pattern baldness that's pure snake oil.

Two herbal/natural extracts that 'may' help for male pattern baldness are saw palmetto and tea tree oil. Saw palmetto may work by inhibiting DHT on the hair follicles while tea tree oil may work due to its antiseptic and antifungal properties.

If you want something that has been proven to inhibit DHT at the hair follicles, then finasteride is what will do it. If you want something that has shown plenty of promise to aid in male pattern baldness thanks to its anti fungal properties, then try ketoconazole.

The problem with herbal remedies and extracts to treat male pattern baldness is that there's no real evidence behind most of the stuff being sold. But then there's no regulation in place so anyone can come up with some stupid herbal blend and sell it to the masses promising hair regrowth.

See this thread for the hair loss products available as treatments against male pattern baldness. They include some interesting compounds including ketoconazole and tea tree oil - combined with other proven compounds.

So tell your brother to either look into saw palmetto and tea tree oil, or go straight for the stuff that has been proven to work to slow down male pattern baldness and even regrow hair to some extent.
