Information Mens Hairstyles with Hair Accessories For Men: Pictures, Products, Tips and Advice
Hair accessories for men can be used for lot of mens hairstyles! so let's then dedicated this thread to pictures of male hairstyles with accessories like headbands, hair elastics, Alice bands, dorags, bandanas, hair pins & more!
We already have in the forum a good discussion about hair accessories for men so check that link to the discussion too. This thread will be more about pictures & the hairstyles that are done with all these mens hairstyling accessories. I am posting all the accessories in 2 divided posts so continue browsing down after this first post for the second post.

Accessories for mens hair are usually used for long hair & for creating very custom & cool hairstyles. Most hair accessories are unisex so men can also wear them although in some cases like Alice bands or hair pins, the accessories really are for a female audience - but you can still wear them just go for dark colours & no pictures of bunnies or Hello Kitty!

FWIW & before we go thru all the hairstyle accessories, there is a big section on The Men's Hair Book about all these accessories & the recommendations for which hair types & hair lengths suit all the hair accessories. The accessories section in The Men's Hair Book is a really good read to complement this thread so if you are interested in growing your hair to a medium length or long length then that book will be really useful for you - just don't stop reading our forum just because that book has everything you need to know about male hair! Big Grin

Headbands
Headbands are fit to go around the head to pull the hair back. You can use a headband for playing sports or for a cool fashion look. Headbands are popular with football players like Fernando Torres when he had long hair & Sergio Ramos when he had long hair too - just to name two football players that have used headbands.

Hair elastics
Hair elastics are used to tie the hair into a ponytail or man bun hairstyle with long hair for a clean look. Hair elastics are known also as hair ties, hairbands or scrunchies - although scrunchies are usually softer elastics.
You should always get hair elastics with no metal bits in them to avoid hair damage.

Hair elastics are popular with male sport players with long hair. You can also wear an elastic for long hair at work so your hair is flat on your head & discreet.

Alice bands
Alice bands are hard headbands - usually made of plastic - that do not go around the whole head like with a headband. An Alice band is set behind the ears - when you look at the head from the side view - so all the hair on the font section of the head is pulled back.
Wearing an Alice band is risky because there are no manly Alice bands. Some football players like David Beckham & Hollywood actors like Leonardo DiCaprio have worn Alice bands for their long hair.

Do-rags
Do-rags aka durags, dorags or skull caps are textile caps that are fit on the head to cover the top & sides of the head. Do-rags are used to protect the curly hair of men especially kinky curly hair aka 'afro' style hair. Do-rags are popular accessories as hairstyles for black men to protect 360 waves & cornrows hairstyles, but any male can wear a dorag. Actually a do-rag is great for protecting your hair when you don't want to 'show it off' so get one if you tend to get split hairs or your curls are not very shaped.

As reference: rapper 50 cents aka Curtis James Jackson is known for wearing do-rags.

Bandanas
A bandana is similar to a do-rag but the bandana is a piece of cloth - like a handkerchief - only that you fold & then tie to your head. There are lot of designs for bandanas & it is a popular hairstyle accessory for bikers. Rafael Nadal is known for using bandanas to style his hair for playing tennis matches.

Bobby pins
Bobby pins are hair pins that are clipped to the hair to make it stay in a certain shape or style you want especially when the hair is long. Bobby pins for men as products don't exist but men can use bobby pins since they are usually painted black so they are ok to wear cause they are discreet. It is when you use Hello Kitty bobby pins that u get in trouble Big Grin

RE: Mens Hairstyles with Hair Accessories For Men: Pictures, Products, Tips and Advice
hey jurgen thanks for this guide. I read in the mens hair book that medium length is the minimum for headbands which i would say is true. BUt in your opinion do you think a headband like the thin ones you posted would look stupid with short hair say like with a brush up hairstyle??

What an excellent guide as usual, Jurgen!

This hair accessories guide will help many of you guys understand the currently available hair accessories for men. Using these accessories is not a feminine endeavor although surely using them 50 years ago would not have gotten you some positive looks LOL Nowadays however, and as Jurgen as pointed out, these accessories are used by many sportsmen to style their medium length or long hair in a convenient fashion. From there onwards, hair accessories have started to become trendier among the regular folks who are also starting to pay more attention to their hair.

A classic example of a men's hair accessory becoming popular among soccer players is the thin headband you explained, Jurgen. I don't follow the sport much but I have seen so many soccer players with headbands that I have lost count. Incidentally, the soccer players that I've most seen wearing head bands are Latin players from Italy, Spain and South America!

Another hair accessory that we could perhaps include is the beanie. We have covered the hairstyles for beanies and beanies can be used to enhance a male hairstyle instead of just using the beanie to protect the scalp from cold temperatures.

The cool thing about beanies is that you can pretty much wear them for any given hairstyle as shown in the pictures below. When it's cold, you would want to wear this kind of beanie (75% made of high-quality silk) whereas when it isn't cold (like spring/summer) and you feel like wearing a beanie, you would instead wear this beanie.

Alex, I would avoid using any of the accessories with short hair except for do-rags. Do-rags are more of an ornamental accessory although they can become functional when used to protect the hair when it is heavily manipulated such as when wolfing to create 360 waves. The do-rags that Jurgen has posted in the links are pretty good and will serve a good decorative goal if you want to look into other fashion accessories for your clothing style.

I was just updating with more pictures our Rafa Nadal's hair loss discussion after him winning the 2014 Roland Garros and I found some pictures of Rafa Nadal's bandana, which he has made quite popular by now Smile Other tennis players usually wear regular sports headbands that not only keep the hair away from the face but also absorb any sweat, but Nadal prefers to display a trendier look with the bandana!

On the other hand, Roger Federer uses a regular sports headband.

RE: Mens Hairstyles with Hair Accessories For Men: Pictures, Products, Tips and Advice
Thanks to Barber for reminding me of Kyle Beckerman in our 2014 World Cup football hairstyles official discussion. Kyle Beckerman's hair is in a dreadlocks hairstyle & he uses a lot of bands to tie his dreadlocks lol imagine with all those locks bouncing around on your face when your running after the ball or you hit another player Big Grin
It is rare when you see football players with dreadlocks styles, even if they only have their dreads as short & not like Kyle Beckerman's dreadlocks.

Fernando Torres hair with headband. Seems as though Torres was really a fan of using male hair accessories back when he had long hair.

Paolo Maldini hairstyle
Headband hairstyle of Paolo Maldini
Paolo maldini was famous for his long hair and headbands. I don't think i have seen him with his hair tied in a ponytail or man bun though

Chance Myers, Georgios Samaras, Vagner Love, Gervinho
Chance Myers
Chance Myers headband hairstyle is also popular as he uses the headband around his head horizontally instead of vertically. So Chance Myers hair is kept in bangs & curtains on his forehead. Doesn't make much sense tho.

Gervinho
Poor Gervinho's hair, he is losing his braids by the minute with traction alopecia. Gervinho's headband hairstyle is the same as Chance Myers.

Marcel Schmelzer
Marcel Schmelzer's hair fixed horizontally with a headband like Chance Myers & Gervinho.

Vagner Love
Vagner Love's hair is blue, long & with braids! Vagner Love is a brazilian football player who not only has blue long braids but also uses a wide headband. Vagner Love's hair looks healthier than Gervinho's hair, no sign of traction alopecia on the hair of Vagner Love.

Georgios Samaras
Georgios Samaras hair may not be as famous as Georgios Samaras beard, but it is a close 2nd place. Georgios Samaras hair is straight & long - that didn't sound very good... Big Grin Georgios Samaras hair probably has a fan group somewhere on the internet too.

Fernando Redondo
Fernando Redondo's long hair was usually fixed with a headband. Fernando Redondo used to play for Real Madrid & won a Champions League - or two, I can't remember lol

Sergio Ramos
Sergio Ramos hair used to be long & he would used a hair band around the head o keep it fixed too. It has been a long time tho since any kind of mens hairstyle accessory has been used on Sergio Ramos hair.

Christian Fuchs
Christian Fuchs hair is fixed with an Alice headband. He actually uses the alice band a lot. Christian Fuchs is an austrian footballer.
