Long Wavy Hair Men - Pictures, How To Style, Products, Inspiration and Tips

Wavy hair guys, grow those locks long!

Long wavy hair can look really good in men, provided that the hair is taken care of. So as to inspire those of you with wavy hair, I'll post below a set of pictures of men with long wavy hair. We'll also use this thread for posting more pictures, advice or asking questions concerning long wavy hair in men as well as anything related to hair products for wavy men.

Wavy hair men are actually lucky as wavy locks have the natural volume of curly hair (i.e. coiled curly hair) while still having the malleability and shaping ability of straight hair. What this means is that, with just some smart hair caring, a wavy haired dude can rock an impressive mane of waves.

Pictures of men with long wavy hair:

The pictures below are part of an on-going update of wavy hair style pictures. We already have a really useful thread on the wavy hairstyles for men and you can also check the thread on curly hairstyles for men to get ideas of hair styles that would very easily suit you. With a wavy mane, you can pretty much style it as you want and whenever you want. Of course, make sure that you are treating your hair well (e.g. through hair nutrition) and using a couple of good hair products for men with wavy hair, but having a rock-star mane should come easily to you.

In the next post below this one, I will also be talking about the minimum hair lengths for long wavy hair. But, to give you a quick idea, you will need at least 6 inches of hair length to start having long hair and having it hang down as opposed to puff out! Smile

Here's the first set of long wavy hair pictures. I've included male celebrities such as Jason Momoa and Josh Upshaw, both also being dudes with wavy locks.

Hair growing advice and recommended hair products for wavy hair men.

How long is long hair?

According to the book, The Men's Hair Book, long hair starts at 6 inches long (the book is unrelated to this forum, by the way). In this forum, we also agree that 6 inches of hair length is the dividing line for long hair. Why? Because when hair grows beyond 6 inches it starts to hang down, from fully hang down for straight hair to some mild hanging down for curlier hair types. Likewise, at 6 inches of hair length, hair care starts to become increasingly more intensive the longer it grows.

If you want to know how long it will take you to get long hair, you will grow about 6 inches of hair length in a year's time. Adult men grow hair at half an inch per month. That's a rough estimate, and your hair growth speed can be somewhat lower (by about 1/4 of an inch) or higher (to almost a whole inch per month). There are some variables that control how fast your hair grows, but its mainly your own genes and your nutritional status. You cannot control how your genes work, but you can certainly control your nutritional status by having a nutritious diet and taking useful hair supplements as we've discussed at length in the linked thread.

In any case, measure your hair right now and subtract your current hair length from 6 inches. Then double the number that you get and you will have how many months you have left to grow long hair.

For example, if you have hair that is 2 inches long, then you will have a result of 4 when subtracting 2 from 6 inches. Then you double up 4 to 8, and that 8 represents the months that you have left to grow long hair (i.e. you have 8 months left to gt to 6 inches). Again, this figure can vary slightly depending on how fast your hair grows.

If you want your hair to touch your shoulders, you will need at least 16 inches of hair length to start touching your shoulders with wavy hair. Possibly more if you're close to being a coiled curly haired dude.

Having a big mane of wavy locks will take some years, so you need to be and stay patient! Smile

you will need at least 12 inches of hair length. If your hair is wavy, coiled curly or kinky curly, you hair will need at least 20 inches and much more to touch your shoulders. Hence men with curly hair take longer to have their hair touch their shoulders or where the neck meets the collarbone.

Hair products for long wavy hair men:

While good hair care is the most important part of having long wavy hair, hair products can also help in your quest to having a great long mane of locks. Since the most common hairstyle for a long hair dude is an "all down" style, you don't need a lot of hairstyling products (e.g. styling waxes or pomades) as opposed to hair care products!

Recommended hair products for long wavy hair:

These are the products that we recommend for guys with long wavy manes. You can find all recommended products in the links posted for each product! Smile
  • This hairstyling cream: the hairstyling cream in the link goes great to have your hair with some natural-looking slick, shine and smoothness. It will last you a long time, so don't be too worried about the price.
  • This regular conditioner: you must always use a conditioner after shampooing, never forget that! The conditioner in the link is an excellent affordable conditioner that will leave your mane with glorious gloss (more like manly gloss)! Simply leave the regular conditioner in the link for 2 minutes on your hair as you're bathing, then wash off the conditioner with water. You can do this while bathing and cleaning the rest of your body; it won't be an inconvenience, trust me!
  • This leave-in conditioner: a leave-in conditioner is an awesome hair care product to own if you didn't use a regular conditioner that day or if you feel like not using a hairstyling cream to style your hair. The leave-in conditioner in the link is great for this and will add more smoothness and gloss.
  • This hair dryer: as a wavy-haired guy, you might want to use a hair dryer for a variety of reasons, including to augment your hair volume even further! Go with the hair dryer in the link as it's the best that you can get to avoid frizz, and most hair dryers create frizz which is really bad for someone with wavy hair. This conditioner in the link does the opposite and keeps frizz at bay (thus it isn't a cheap hair dryer, unfortunately, but it's worth its price by a mile!).
  • The Men's Hair Book: this book is essential reading for any guy. The Men's Hair Book goes through everything that you need to know about your hair. What you will find in The Men's Hair Book is information, advice and tips that you will not find anywhere else as Rogelio (author of the book) emphasizes hair care and grooming over styling, and this is something that is very important. If you have a good hair care routine, your hairstyling will become way better and your hair will simply stand out.
The above hair products for long wavy hair are great choices for either your long hair journey or your current long hair status.

The beard and long wavy hairstyle of Michiel Huisman!
Adding another male celebrity to our list of long wavy-haired guys.

Michiel Huisman:

Michiel Huisman is known for playing Daario Naharis in Game of Thrones. He keeps his hair long at about 6 inches long, which is the minimal length to classify one's hair as long. At this length, his wavy locks dangle instead of puff out, but this could also be from using a good leave-in conditioner as the leave in conditioner weighs down the hair and keeps it from puffing up! Smile

Here are some pictures of the long wavy mane of Michiel Huisman.
