Hairstyle Accessories for Men: Long Hair with Headbands Pictures

Photo Hairstyle Accessories for Men: Long Hair with Headbands Pictures
While publishing our long middle part hairstyle guide, I included a lot of pictures of long hair guys with headbands. That gave me the idea to publish this thread per se on headbands for men with long hair. The idea is to include headband pictures for some hairstyling inspiration as well as any tips or advice that you may have.

As many of you will know, a headband is a type of hair accessory for men. Headbands can either be thin or wide, and they are placed across the head so as to pull the hair back or keep the hair from dangling and thus blocking one's eyesight. Hence headbands are specially popular with sportsmen.

While here in the United States, the headband trend has yet to pick up, I have no doubts that we will see more and more guys using headbands due to the popularity of the man bun hairstyle in 2014 going all the way to 2016 (as per the feedback from our forum's barbers and hairdressers!).

A man bun style requires long hair and, thus, when the hair isn't tied into a bun, a headband will be a very-convenient piece of hair accessory to own. Even if you happen to have the small form of the manbun, known as a top knot, you will still benefit from having a headband to pull your hair back when you don't feel like putting your hair into a knot.

As a reminder and despite the fact that this thread is being posted at our Long Hair forum section, long hair is any hair length that surpasses the 6-inch length mark as per our hair type guide. Hair accessories like headbands are very useful for men with long hair and those males with medium length hair (from 2 to 6 inches of hair length) can also benefit from the use of a headband. As for hair types, any male hair type can use hairstyling accessories and/or headbands.

While in the United States the use of headbands isn't quite widespread yet, the contrary can be said of Europe. The use of headbands (among other men's hair accessories) in countries like Italy, Spain, Portugal and the United Kingdom is widespread. Namely, this has occurred from the use of headbands by soccer player. Instead of tying their hair into a ponytail, soccer players tend to just use a headband to keep the hair from blocking their visual field.

As Sergio Ramos (who used headbands when he had long hair) once said, "the use of headbands as opposed to ponytails is a mere aesthetic choice". I think that says it all about the widespread use of headbands in European soccer leagues! Big Grin

Pictures of hair accessories for men, including Sergio Ramos and Fernando Torres!
Here is another set of pictures of guys using headbands to secure their hair. Most of them are soccer players, so it should be said that the purpose of the thin headbands that they use is to pull back the hair on the forelock (i.e. front of the head) so that it doesn't interfere with one's eyesight. However, most soccer players use them as a form of tightening all their hair around their head, which works to an extent, but which still leaves the lower sections of the hair strands loose.

Since this thread is about headbands, make sure that you head over to our detailed men's hair accessories guide as you will find all about the different types of hair accessories for men and which also includes headbands. You will find plenty of pictures of dudes using each type of hair accessory and you will also find reliable vendors from whom to buy the hair accessories for a low price. In fact, the thin headbands that you see in the pictures below are not as common as the wider headbands (used by tennis players, for example), yet the vendors that we've listed in our men's hair accessories guide linked above do carry some really good thin headbands at great prices.

So, you will find below more pictures for those of you guys with long hair or considering to grow your hair long! As a former long haired dude, I cannot recommend headbands enough as even the good ones are cheap enough to own a couple of them! Smile

I've also included below a couple of pictures of guys with wide headbands. These types of headbands are, unlike thin headbands, far more useful to sportsmen as not only do they secure the hair better but they also absorb sweat which would otherwise get in their eyes.

Lastly, another type of headband is the Alice band. The use of this type of headband has only recently become slightly popular as soccer players like Gareth Bale wear Alice bands during training and games. Again, European soccer players seem to be the official trend-setters when it comes to fashion trends in professional sports! Big Grin

Below is a picture of Gareth Bale with his Alice headband. Notice how the Alice band is set further back on the forelock and how it leaves tracks on the hair. This is due to the inherent solid shape of an Alice band, which is the opposite of a typical headband (the latter being elastic and made of fabric and rubber). To visualize it better, I've actually included below (2nd picture) a picture of an Alice band.

For the record, Gareth Bale plays for Real Madrid and we have a full discussion on Gareth Bale's hairstyles and haircuts with plenty of pictures of his latest hairstyles.
